Your Community School

Goodlettsville Elementary has been providing high-quality education to the citizens of our community for over 100 years!

When you enter the doors of Goodlettsville Elementary,  you will notice an energy not found in many other schools. Studies show that an atmosphere of care and connection positively impacts academic performance. Goodlettsville Elementary amplifies student care and connectedness like never before! We are a relationship-centered learning community of students, parents, teachers, and staff with rigorous, social-emotional, and academic expectations.

With a focus on rigorous core academic subjects taught by nurturing and encouraging teachers, Goodlettsville Elementary helps students excel in and beyond the classroom. Goodlettsville Elementary provides engaging and differentiated instruction; incorporates technology in teaching and learning; and offers many paths by which children can succeed. The physical education department teaches a curriculum that promotes health and wellness. The art curriculum teaches students to explore their creativity through a variety of art focused on ideas and personally meaningful content. The music program focuses on music literacy and student participation.  The GATE program offers support and challenge to gifted and talented children.

Goodlettsville Elementary prioritizes the social-emotional learning needs of students. We want students to build relationships with one another, faculty, and staff in meaningful ways. As a Trauma-Informed focus school, teachers use strategies from Trauma-Informed Schools and the Trauma-Informed Brain. We have a school-wide monthly social-skills curriculum that focuses on a different social skill and includes corresponding activities each month.

Every day at Goodlettsville Elementary begins with a Morning Meeting.  Each classroom has a peace corner to encourage a calm environment and instill peaceful habits and attitudes in children. To further develop emotional intelligence skills for long-term well-being, we have added the program Move This World to our daily instructional routine.

In 2015, we implemented a house system to support students' social and emotional learning. The house system is a collection of diverse students across all grade levels and faculty and staff members. Each house collaborates on service-learning projects, friendly competition, and more.

The house system builds a team spirit and belonging among students. Each house, Altruismo, Fidelta, Philotimo, and Tharr'os, represents different characteristics that make a great citizen, such as compassion, loyalty, honor, and bravery.

Goodlettsville Elementary seeks opportunities to connect with students and their families in new, innovative ways. Students are assigned an SEL Navigator who conducts weekly check-ins with students and families to stay apprised of family needs and monitor student health and wellness. In-depth support for specific students at Goodlettsville Elementary includes a mentoring program and social skills instructional groups, individual counseling sessions with our school counselor, Vanderbilt school-based therapist, and school social worker.

Goodlettsville Elementary is fortunate to partner with local community agencies, businesses, and faith groups who contribute to our school in many ways. Our partners give time, services, items, and monetary donations toward our fundraisers and other school functions. Because of these agencies, we can also help support families by providing basic needs outside of the school setting.
